Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need before coming?

If you will be choosing to have our clinic bill your insurance, we require a doctor’s prescription prior to beginning physical therapy. If you do not currently have a physician, please call our office at (949)706-1001 and we can provide you with physician recommendations that are conveniently located near our Newport Beach office.

If you choose to not bill insurance and self pay, no insurance is required for the initial visit, however, ongoing care will require a prescription in accordance with California law.

What can I expect from my first appointment?

For your first appointment, please wear loose-fitting athletic clothing (shorts) so we can properly assess movement patterns and body mechanics.

Our therapist will conduct a 1-1 evaluation with you, assessing your whole body biomechanics and putting together an individualized treatment plan tailored to your specific goals. Please expect 1.5 to 2 hours due to the detailed nature of the initial evaluation.

How much will this cost?

Ayako Physical Therapy is an out-of-network physical therapy clinic for all PPO insurance plans, and is in-network for Medicare.

We also have a self-pay option if you decide to not use insurance. Please call our office for more details at (949)706-1001.

How often will I need to come?

Physical therapy is much like everything else in life…you’ll get out of it what you put in! Please note that the length of each individual’s rehab journey is different, depending on the severity and duration of the injury. The majority of our patients see good progress on 2-3 visits per week, but this varies depending on your particular injury. Being consistent will help you progress towards your goals more quickly and enable you to achieve the best possible outcome.

How will Pilates help me?

Our clinic houses two state of the art Balanced Body studio Reformers, Towers, and one Chair. Pilates training is one of the most effective forms of physical fitness: it is easily modifiable for injuries, spring-loaded for a lighter burden on joints, and provides strengthening throughout the entire body.

Pilates is a core-centered movement, meaning that it encourages strong core engagement at all times. This promotes better posture, something that many of us struggle with due to cell phones, laptop screens, or uncomfortable office chairs. Pilates also has been known to increase body awareness and physical mobility.

Our in-office Pilates equipment can help you strengthen, tone, and improve flexibility as you progress through physical therapy rehabilitation.
